The best burger in Greenville has been topped with melted pepper jack cheese, guacamole, and a new title.
The Varsity Club's winning Chef, Ed Romm, brought his winning Guac Burger to WITN News at Sunrise Thursday morning.
Congratulations to the Uptown Greenville Umbrella Market's Big Burger Throwdown champ, Ed Romm of The Varsity Club.
Five chefs were competing in the local grill-off.
The Hawk Sauce's Southern Burger boasted homemade pimento cheese and a fried green tomato.
Starlight submitted a Chorizo Burger for the judges palates with spicy black bean puree, provolone, roasted peppers, and cabbage slaw.
The Scullery offered the taste-test panel their signature black bean burger, and Mac Meadows served up a chili-cheese burger with the bacon in the burger patty.
The fifth, final, and winning burger was served up from The Varsity Club. Their Guac Burger had bacon, guacamole, and melted pepper jack cheese poured on top.
Uptown Greenville Umbrella Market patrons lined up and voted for the best burger based on not only taste but creativity.
Though vote-counters said it was a close race, The Varsity Club took the burger title.
"I knew it was going to be tough, going against some really amazing chefs in the area," Romm told WITN. "But we're really known for pizza and wings, so to win this, I hope it puts our burgers on the map, too."
