Duplin Co. Sheriff: Mom Trapped Son In Hot Room, Charged With Child Abuse

Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace tells WITN a Beaulaville mother was arrested Wednesday and charged with misdemeanor child
abuse and is expected to face more charges after she tied a door shut with rope to keep her 5-year-old son in a hot room with no air conditioning for several hours.

Sheriff Wallace says Laura Blas left fast food for her son and tied the door shut while she went to work in Jacksonville and a doctor's appointment in Wilmington.

Investigators say neighbors saw the 5-year-old and called 911. The sheriff says the boy is in foster care now.

Blas is also charged with contributing to a delinquency of a minor and was released from jail after being held on a $10,000 dollar bond.
