UPDATE: Homicide Investigation In Swansboro

NEW INFO: Homicide Investigation In Swansboro

Swansboro police say a man has been arrested and charged in a woman's murder.

They report John Giltz Jr., who is in his 60s, is in jail.

Police tell WITN 50-year-old Susan Zemlick was shot once and killed in the house she lived in on South Dogwood Lane in Swansboro.

Zemlick had been living there since October 2011, according to police.

Police say Giltz was living at the home. His first court appearance is tomorrow. They say they do not have a motive at this time.

The Swansboro police department is holding a press conference at 3:00 this afternoon.

We expect new information about this week's homicide case.

A woman was killed in her home on South Dogwood Lane.

Swansboro police said earlier this week they had a suspect.

Previous Story:

Police tell WITN Susan Zemlick was shot and killed in the house she lived in on South Dogwood Lane in Swansboro.

Police say they were called to the house off Old Hammock Rd. at 10:50 a.m. on Monday.

Police report they do have a suspect but have not yet made an arrest. They emphasized Wednesday morning that the public is not in danger.

They would not identify the suspect but did tell WITN the victim's estranged husband is not a suspect.

Previous Story:
Police in Swansboro are investigating a homicide.

Police now say the person was shot, but have released few other details. We do know it happened on South Dogwood Lane, a quiet cul-de-sac of neat one-story homes in a subdivision off Old Hammock Road.

A barricade has closed off that street while police crime tape surrounds a home half-way up the street. Swansboro police and an Onslow County crime scene unit are still at the scene.

Lawmen say the initial call came in as a suicide, but once investigators arrived that was changed to a homicide.

Neighbors tell us an older couple lives at the home and the man reportedly has some medical issues.

The last fatal shooting in this Onslow County coastal town happened last February when a reserve deputy sheriff killed a Havelock firefighter who was firing a weapon. Prosecutors said that shooting was justified.

WITN News has a reporter at the scene and we'll have updates as more information becomes available.
