TROOPERS: Marine Air-Lifted From Motorcycle Wreck The Day After His Birthday

A Camp Lejeune Marine was seriously injured in a motorcycle wreck on the day after his birthday.

Trooper M.T. Bryan said he got the call shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning to the intersection of Buckhead Road and Rack Road, near Sandridge Road in Hubert.

Troopers said the morning after Joseph Durigon's 22nd birthday, he was riding motorcycles with one friend to another friend's home.

Troopers said speed may have been a factor when Durigon turned onto Rack Road, flipping several times.

The wreck threw the Marine from his bike. Durigon's helmet came off during the wreck.

Trooper Bryan said the friend who was riding alongside Durigon said a car came into their lane of travel, and the motorcycle and car collided, sending Durigon spiraling.

Durigon was airlifted the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington with a head injury. The hospital says he's in serious condition.

No charges have been filed in the wreck.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor and Durigon was wearing a helmet.
