Victim Identified In Fatal Washington Fire

Washington Police have identified the victim of an early morning fatal fire as 59-year-old Larry Dickerson.

He lived at apartment 203 at Highland Apartments on Quail Drive.

The investigation into a fatal fire continues in Washington.

The fire started in the apartment's living room, but the cause has not been determined. The Washington fire chief says the entire building is a total loss.

Crews were called to the Highland Apartments on Quail Dr. just after 12:30 a.m.

The American Red Cross is assisting the people who were displaced from their homes.

We're continuing to gather details on a fatal fire at a Washington apartment complex overnight.

Washington Fire Chief Robbie Rose tells us one person was killed in the fire that was called in at 12:33 a.m. The caller reported heavy flames showing from an upstairs apartment in one of the buildings on Quail Drive.

Several fire crews were called to the scene including Washington Fire. Chief Rose says firefighters aggressively attacked the fire to put it out and found a body upon searching the building. The name of the person killed has not been released.

There is extensive damage to an upstairs apartment and a total of four apartments have some sort of damage.

Officials with the American Red Cross says they are assisting three people who have been displaced due to the blaze.

Fire crews are on the scene of an overnight apartment building fire in the city of Washington.

Beaufort County Emergency Manager John Pack says that the Washington Fire Department and various surrounding volunteer fire departments are working to put out a blaze at Highland Apartments on Highland Drive in Washington.

Crews were called out to the scene sometime after midnight. Pack says he doesn't know how many families have been effected by the fire; no word on any injuries.
