Farmer Thrown Off Tractor After Being Hit On Highway 11

Troopers say a high school teacher on his way to work struck a farm tractor, throwing the farmer to the ground.

The accident happened on Highway 11, about six miles south of Bethel around 7:30 a.m.

Trooper Greg Koonce says both vehicles were heading north when the car struck the back left tire of the tractor. Koonce says John Dunning of Greenville said he simply wasn't paying attention.

Both drivers were taken to Vidant Medical Center, but neither were seriously injured.

Trooper Koonce says Dunning will be charged in the accident.

At least one person has been taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after a car collided with a tractor this morning.

Dispatchers say the wreck was reported at 7:35 a.m. on Highway 11 near Pug Moore Rd. The scene of the crash is very close to the Country Mart convenience store and North Pitt High School.

The Highway Patrol is responding, along with fire and EMS crews.

At this time, we don't know the extent of the injuries to those involved in the crash.
