UPDATE: Greenville Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects

We're watching for the first court appearances today of two men charged with an armed robbery right across from the campus of ECU.

Greenville police say 20-year-olds Dontavius Cox and Alton Evely, both of Greenville, robbed a man on East 5th Street, just down from the ECU chancellor's residence early last Tuesday morning. Both are being held under a $100,000 bond.

Police say Cox has one prior arrest for disorderly conduct, while Evely's been charged in the past for larceny, possession of stolen goods and probation violations.

Police have released surveillance video of two men they believe robbed a man early Tuesday morning across from the ECU campus.

Detectives say the video is from the safety camera at 5th and Cotanche streets and shows the two men following the victim just prior to the robbery on East Fifth Street. Police say the video also shows the two apparently stalking other potential victims around downtown nightclubs.

The robbery happened around 2:40 a.m. and the man's cell phone and cash were taken. Police say at least one of the robbers had a semi-automatic handgun.

A violent crime is under investigation right now in Greenville; an armed robbery and assault right across the street from the campus of ECU on 5th Street.

East Carolina University issued an alert saying a man was held up by two gunmen at 505 East 5th Street in Greenville, just before 3;00 a.m. this morning; that's just a stone's throw from the chancellor's residence.

Police say the victim, who is not an ECU student, said the suspects hit him from behind, stole his wallet and his cell phone. The alert indicates Greenville police are investigating the crime.
