FIRST ON WITN: Tractor Trailer Slams Into Mobile Home

State troopers say a truck driver told them he blacked out just before his 18-wheeler slammed into a mobile home in Lenoir County this morning.

The crash happened around 10:15 a.m. on Lynley Place, that's just off Highway 70, east of Kinston.

Authorities say fortunately no one was inside the mobile home at the time of the crash. The driver of the tractor trailer, Richard Davis of Gastonia, was taken to the hospital.

Troopers say the big rig was headed west, jumped the grass median, went across the eastbound lanes and into the trailer park. The Highway Patrol says Davis will be charged in the crash.

Curtis and Mary Lou King have lived there for 45 years. Their son tells us his dad normally sits on a couch where the tractor trailer hit, but fortunately he went to work this morning.

There was debris scattered in yards, downed power lines and several trees down as well. Some 1800 Progress Energy customers were without power, while 75 Suddenlink customers lost their cable due to the crash.

Troopers estimate some $50,000 in damage because of the accident.

This accident comes nearly two weeks after another tractor trailer in Lenoir County ran off Highway 70 outside of La Grange and killed a pregnant mother in the parking lot of a restaurant.
