Mobile Home Fire That Killed Disabled Man Ruled Accident

Investigators say a blaze that killed an elderly disabled man early this morning was an accidental electrical fire.

Sandy Bottom Deputy Fire Chief Timmy Mooring said they got a call at 4:46 a.m. to Gulick Drive, which is off Highway 11, south of Kinston.

Family members identify the victim as 76-year-old Jake Rogers.

Mooring said firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from the mobile home.

Firefighters say the man lived there alone, and had complications walking, yet was not entirely wheelchair-bound.

Crews had the fire out within 20 minutes and said no one else was injured.

Family members say Rogers had six children, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
