NEW INFO: Man Charged After Greenville Bank Robbed

Police arrested a man less than 30 minutes after a bank was robbed in Greenville Tuesday afternoon.

The First Citizens Bank on Greenville Boulevard, near 14th Street, was held up around 2:10 p.m. Sgt. Joe Friday says a white man wearing a sweater and blue ball cap handed a note to the teller. He says police are unsure whether the robber had a firearm or not.

Less than a half hour later ECU police stopped the possible suspect on Forest Hill Circle.

36-year-old Robbie Knowles of Greenville is charged with common law robbery. Police say they recovered cash and a hand-written note from the man.

Knowles, who police say has prior arrests for armed robbery, assault, and felony larceny, was jailed on a $50,000 bond. His criminal rap sheet goes back to 1993 and he was last released from prison in July of last year on a larceny charge.

No one was injured in the robbery. The same bank was robbed within the past year, according to police.
