Man, Three Others Charged With Killing His Aunt In Drive-By

Four people have been charged in a drive-by shooting that killed a Nash County mother late last week. Deputies say one of those was the nephew of the victim.

Deputies this morning arrested the four with the help of North Carolina Probation and Parole officers.

Killed in the shooting on Old Middlesex Road Thursday night was Portia Hinnant.

Deputies have charged Charles Hinnant, Jr., Dominique Brown, Anna Perry, Adrian Joyner, all of Bailey with first degree murder, felony conspiracy to commit first degree murder, and discharging a weapon into occupied property inflicting serious bodily injury.

The motive is believed to have been a dispute between Charles Hinnant and the victim's son, Burnice. Deputies say the victim was Charles Hinnant's aunt.

Burnice Hinnant was arrested last year for the murder of Jayquan Taybron of Middlesex.

All four are in jail without bond and have a first court appearance Tuesday.

Deputies in Nash County said on overnight drive-by shooting left one woman dead.

Deputies said they got the call of a drive-by shooting along Old Middlesex Road in Nash County. Once they arrived to the home, investigators found 41-year-old Portia Hinnant had been shot. While first responders tried to revive her, Hinnant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people were inside the home at the time, but investigators said they were not injured

Family members say Hinnant was married and has a 19-year-old son.

Deputies are now looking for the shooter and have not named any suspects.
