Amtrak Train And Truck Collide In VA, Injuries Reported

Police say an Amtrak train has collided with a vehicle in eastern Virginia and there are injuries.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya says the accident occurred on Route 40 in Waverly around 6 a.m. Thursday.

Anaya says there are unknown injuries and a medical flight is heading to the scene.

Troopers are investigating the crash.

Anaya says no other information is available.

Waverly is around 45 miles from Richmond, Va.

NBC affiliate WAVY in Virginia reports State Police are investigating a crash involving a vehicle and an Amtrak train in Waverly.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police told the crash occurred on Route 40 around 6 a.m. Anaya did not say if the train struck the vehicle or vice versa.

Christina Leeds with Amtrak told Northeast Regional train 174 was involved in the crash.

The train was operating from Norfolk to Boston and had 46 passengers on board. Leeds said there were no reported injuries to passengers.

Anaya said LifeFlight was called to the scene, but the extent of injuries at this time is unknown.
