Flags with pictures of fallen heroes flown in a September 11th Memorial will be available for adoption.
The over 400 flags with pictures of men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, 2001, and flew for the 10th anniversary in downtown New Bern, can now be adopted.
Organizer and retired firefighter Phil Buffa says adopting one of these flags is a more personal way to honor and remember the fallen heroes of September 11th. "The flag display that we had in front of the church that was there for people to look at and to remember and for a teaching tool, this is a way now that they can write something personal to the fire department, to the police department and say, hey, I'm never going to forget what they did."
The adoption center will be open Sunday, October 9th at the New Bern Convention Center from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A donation is requested to benefit to the NC Fallen Firefighter Foundation and the NC Officer Down Memorial Fund.
