Actress Vicki Lawrence Spoke At Greenville Power Of The Purse Event

The annual Power Of The Purse luncheon had some funny star power Wednesday to encourage people to donate to Pitt County non-profits benefiting women.

The crowd at the Greenville Convention Center laughed it up with Vicki Lawrence, a comedienne, actress and singer who started her career with Carol Burnett in 1967. She later had her own show called "Mama's Family." Wednesday morning she spoke to more than 1,000 women in Greenville. Since the Women For Women Power Of The Purse group's inception in 2006, they have raised money to help close to 900 women in Pitt County with more than $345,000 in grant money.

"It's one of the nicest things that women do. I don't think men do this. Do men do this? But women are just great getting together and laughing about our predicament and helping each other. I love going out and doing it," said Lawrence Wednesday in Greenville.
