AAA Carolinas Names Pitt Most Dangerous County For Wrecks

On average, three people die everyday while traveling on roads in our state. The likelihood you're involved in a dangerous traffic collision is actually higher in one local county than any other in North Carolina.

According to AAA Carolinas, Pitt County is ranked number one for the most dangerous county for wrecks. Pitt has been ranked the most dangerous county for the past six years, with more than 300 traffic crashes recorded in 2013.

Pitt County Highway Patrol troopers say speed is a contributing factor in these collisions, but that it's not the only reason there are so many accidents.

"I wouldn't say we're the most dangerous," says Highway Patrol Trooper Doug Coley. "We have a lot of traffic in this area. You have football games and you're bringing in a lot more people during that time. Your wrecks are going to be up."

Other areas with a history of collisions, according to AAA Carolinas, include New Hanover, Vance, Person and Stanly counties.
