A California City Mulls Ban On Gun Shows

A California city council is set to consider a ban on gun shows at a site where they’ve been held for 20 years.

Glendale, a city of 192,000 in Los Angeles county, holds the Glendale Gun Show at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, where approximately 70 gun shows have taken place since 1992. There are three to four shows annually, according to the council’s meeting minutes.

The proposal came after one city councilmember suggested it in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting last month, according to The Washington Times.

Among the possible actions for the five-member council to take Tuesday would involve cancelling the rental contracts for upcoming shows or barring gun sales on city property.

People who buy guns at the show do not walk away with them. They must wait 10 days and get them at a designated gun store, the minutes said, after first passing a background check.

No major incidents have been reported at the Glendale gun shows.
