Gov. Mike Easley has told the two men who head the state Highway Patrol to review the patrol's hiring and screening process as well as its supervisory procedures.
Easley directed Col. Fletcher Clay and Crime Control and Public Safety Secretary Bryan Beatty to conduct the review. Clay is the patrol commander, while Beatty's department oversees the patrol.
Easley's move comes after incidents in which troopers were fired, including one who was fired for having sex in his patrol car and in a patrol office. A state administrative law judge has ordered that the trooper keep his job, but Easley has said he won't reinstate the trooper.
