Mecklenburg County Is Banning Lawn Watering

Mecklenburg County is banning lawn watering starting Wednesday, because of the drought.

It's the first ban ever in the county, which includes Charlotte. The county had limited lawn watering to twice a week since August 28th.

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory says people should take the drought seriously.

Much of North Carolina is in extreme drought. Forecasters say the rains have failed to recharge reservoirs.

The city of Monroe says it will implement mandatory water restrictions and allow watering two days a week.
