The double-murder trial of a Pamlico County man is set to start this week.
Vaughn Antonio Jones, 38 years-old, is accused in the stabbing and beating deaths of an elderly couple in January of 2003. The murders happened at the victims’ home in Merrit.
Jones was tried in Pamlico County last September, but a mistrial was declared after the jury split six to six. The re-trial will take place in Craven County. District attorney Scott Thomas says he won't be seeking the death penalty.
If convicted Jones would face two life sentences.
