Crime on the Rise in Downtown Greenville

Officials say crime is on the rise in Greenville, and in many cases ECU students are the target.

The Greenville police department says police reports have doubled in the last two weeks since students have moved back to town for the fall semester. Among those reports are sexual assault cases involving students visiting businesses in the downtown area during the evening hours.

Authorities recommend limiting the amount of cash you carry, and walking in groups. If you’re old enough to drink, be aware of those offering to buy you a drink.

To help combat the increase in crime, the department has stepped up patrols in student residential areas to curb the use of alcohol and underage drinkers.
