The growing student population in North Carolina is being met with a growing number of teacher shortages that's getting worse every year. Those are the findings of a recent study conducted by the North Carolina Center for Public Policy.
Schools all across the state, especially in counties like Lenoir, are losing teachers by the handful. One of the main reasons is better paying jobs outside of teaching.
One parent we talked to says we definitely need more teachers, especially male teachers. Currently the state has about 86,000 teachers, but needs to hire 10,000 more every year to keep every school fully staffed.
