Fifth Grader Helping Students in Florida

A student in Eastern Carolina has taken it upon himself to help victims of Hurricane Charley in Florida.

Joseph Hurd, a fifth grade student at Sam D. Bundy Elementary in Farmville, says he was watching TV coverage of Charley's damage when he got the idea to help. Hurd says he felt bad for all the people in Florida and their children since they had no food or school supplies.

Hurd asked the school if they would help collect items and says it became a huge hit. Students will collect items for another month, and then the Red Cross will set them up with a school that needs their help.
