Sixty Acre Fire Stalls Traffic On US Highway 70

More than a dozen fire departments and aircraft from the North Carolina Forest Service are battling a 60 acre blaze on the Craven/Jones County line near Dover.

Smoke from the fire is causing stop and go traffic along US Highway 70. The fire began about one o'clock this afternoon. Crews are working to control the blaze. About 20 homes are located near the fire, but so far, no one has been evacuated. Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
