Tourism Big Business for Craven County

One county in Eastern Carolina has seen a significant rise in the past year in tourism dollars, and it's not at the beach.

According to the Travel Industry Association of the Americas, Craven County generated nearly $75,000,000 in 2003, a slight increase over last year. Craven County officials say some of the reasons include the popularity of historic sites, the New Bern convention center, as well as folks coming to visit family stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.

Craven county officials say they are planning other attractions for visitors that should be finished in the coming year.
