Police Officer Resigns After Arrest

A Goldsboro police officer has resigned after his arrest in Lenoir County.

Goldsboro police chief Tim Bell confirms that Officer Rusty Ray Herring has resigned, this after being arrested in Wayne County on misdemeanor B&E and simple assault charges.

Court records say Herring was arrested Wednesday after deputies in Lenoir County say he and a friend forced their way into a home near La Grange.

Herring had been a police officer in Goldsboro for the past 3 1/2 years.
