State Grant Brings Healthy Snacks To Area Schools

Kids at some local schools will have a healthy leg up this year.

They'll be able to grab a fruit or vegetable to snack on pretty much any time of day. It's part of a million dollar grant to the state from the U-S Department of Agriculture.

Here's the list of local schools involved--Bearfield Primary in Hertford County; Mattamuskeet Elementary in Hyde County ; Graham A. Barden Elementary and Oaks Road Elementary in Craven County; Johnson Primary and Tarawa Terrace II Elmentary at Camp Jejeune, and Rich Square-Creecy Elementary school, in Northampton County.

Those schools will have fruit baskets in the classrooms and kiosks in the hallways.
