East Carolina spent the preseason grooming Rob Kass to be its starting quarterback. Now that job is in the hands of a former third-stringer.
Coach Skip Holtz says Patrick Pinkney will start this weekend against North Carolina after his solid performance in the opener at Virginia Tech. Meanwhile, Kass is back from a one-game suspension following his arrest for driving while impaired, but Holtz said the sophomore now has to work his way up from the bottom of the depth chart.
Pinkney completed 14 of 25 passes for 115 yards while rushing
for 48 more against Virginia Tech. That performance was good enough
to earn him the starting job for the Pirates' home opener on Saturday.
