Authorities are trying to figure out what killed an N.C. State University student who was found dead this morning in his dorm room.
The mother of Cameron Underwood tells The Citizen-Times of Asheville that a friend who stayed overnight found her son unresponsive this morning.
The 18-year-old became something of a local celebrity in Asheville during his senior year in high school as he battled the effects of a brain tumor.
University police say Underwood appears to have died of natural causes, but an autopsy is scheduled to confirm that. Cameron Underwood was a freshman at N.C. State. While he was at
T.C. Roberson High School, complications from surgery to remove the
brain tumor left him unable to walk for a couple of months.
He won a standing ovation when he stepped across the stage to pick up his diploma at graduation the following spring.
