Edwards Says Doctor Visits Mandatory Under His Health Care Plan

John Edwards says his plan for health care would require all Americans to go to the doctor for preventive care.

The former North Carolina senator and Democratic presidential candidate promoted his plan today in Iowa. He told a crowd in Tipton that all presidential candidates talking about health care ought to be asked one question: whether their plan covers every American.

Edwards says his plan does -- and everyone has to participate. That means, he says, "You can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."
