Nursing Homes Lobbyist Enters Guilty Plea To Embezzlement

A nursing home lobbyist who pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $200,000 from a political action committee has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Thirty-nine-year-old Stacy Hahn Flannery will be on probation for 30 months for the single felony count. She served as director of legislative affairs and treasurer of the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association's political action committee.

The group represents about 90 percent of licensed nursing homes in the state.

Association president J. Craig Souza says the political action committee contacted the State Board of Elections after discovering "a misappropriation of funds."
