Idaho Senator Larry Craig resigned Saturday, in the aftermath of a bathroom sex sting that left fellow Republicans worried about scandal and pressuring for the resignation.
Craig pleaded guilty to a reduced charge following that sting. He was arrested in a men’s room at the Minneapolis Airport.
Craig has maintained that he did nothing wrong, other than pleading guilty to a lesser charge without consulting a lawyer.
There has been little support for Craig in Idaho or in Washington D.C. Several Republican officials said Idaho's governor appears to have settled on Lieutenant Governor Jim Risch as a replacement for Craig.
