It's a special occasion for one of the state's richest traditions. Wednesday's performance of the "Lost Colony" outdoor drama will feature the local babies who won the role of the infant Virginia Dare.
Virginia Dare was the first English child born in America, on August 18, 1587. During most performances a doll usually performs the job, but Wednesday, three real babies selected from all those who tried out for the role earlier this month take over.
More than 200 area people have played the Virginia Dare role since 1937.
