It may help get guns off the streets and reduce violent crimes in Eastern Carolina. It's called "Project Safe Neighborhood." About 200 lawmen came to Kinston's Global Transpark to participate in a three day training program as part of the federal program.

A representative says the goal of the three day session is to help combat gun violence. Also, come December 1 in North Carolina, if a convicted felon has a shotgun or rifle in their possession, they will go to jail. Previously, the state's law did not match the federal law on this issue.
