If you have damaged trees on your property from Charley, there are some important steps you can take to make sure they survive.
The North Carolina Division of Forest Resources says don't do the large jobs yourself. Make sure you take safety precautions, remove broken branches, and repair torn bark by cutting off loose hanging pieces and leaving bark that is still attached.
Officials also say not to over prune, and don't top your trees. They say cutting back main branches is one of the worst things you could do to a tree.
