Coyotes or Red Wolves Responsible for Attacking and Eating Farm Animals

One Beaufort County resident woke up one morning this week to find a dozen of his farm animals had been attacked or killed.

Chocowinity resident William Brown says Tuesday morning he discovered chickens, goats, ducks, and rabbits all killed or eaten by what wildlife officials speculate could have been a den of coyotes or red wolves.

State wildlife officials say about the only thing that can be done is for Brown to raise his fence in an effort to keep other animals out. Officials say after that you just try to deter them anyway you can and trap and control measures are a last resort.

By the way, Chocowinity officials say a town ordinance makes it illegal for Brown to shoot any animal in town limits, while protecting his own.
