Forced to pay higher taxes is what homeowners in Martin County will have to do if a proposed annexation is passed.

Residents who believe they are being forced into the Williamston city limits took their fight in front of the County Commissioners Wednesday night.

On May 3rd, Williamston city officials decided to annex over 200 homes in the Country Club area, Cedar Hill Subdivision along with two other subdivisions.

The 'Martin County Citizens Against Annexation' presented a resolution to county commissioners asking them to help change the laws of forced annexation in North Carolina.

A decision on the annex is expected to come later this year.

North Carolina is one of only four states that allows forced annexation.

I realize that these annexations have to be done by increments at times in order to meet the requirements of state laws but it is way past time that this happened. Annexation can proceed along a highway, taking in no other property or residents, until the city limits reach a desired area for the annexation of homes and businesses. It has been done all over the state and has been upheld in the courts. This one needs to be completed as quickly as possible so the next one that will take the Williamston town limits all the way down the US 17 corridor to the Big Mill Rd and down the Bear Grass Rd all the way to it's intersections with the Ralph Taylor Rd and Henry Mizelle Rd can proceed. This should take everything on Ralph Taylor Rd, part of the Bear Trap Rd and everything north of Ralph Taylor Rd all the way to the existing town limits into the town limits of Williamston. Hey, you gotta go where the money is, these people have the most and have paid the least for far too long.

This has everything to do with consoloidation. Both actions are part of a grand scheme by the Williamston Gods (the few who know what is best for everyone) to make Williamston and Williamston High School predominately white. School redistricting is next. Wait and see.
