50 New Jobs Come To New Bern

The expansion of a plastics manufacturer will bring 50 jobs and a $5 million investment to coastal Craven County.

Carolina Technical Plastics makes plastic parts for the automotive and home appliance industries. The four-year-old company already employs 70 workers at its plant in New Bern.

The average weekly wages of the new jobs will be $600 plus benefits, compared to the county's average wage of $563 without benefits.

Chief executive Udo Wirthwein praised the state's help with work force training and said the North Carolina location was near its
major markets.

The company received a $75,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides taxpayer-funded financial assistance to recruit businesses or encourage expansion in the state.
