Senator Marc Basnight is preparing to reopen his Lone Cedar Cafe at Nags Head, just four months after a fire destroyed his family's business.
Contractor Steve Daniels says it could have taken a year to rebuild such a building. But he says residents worked together to help the Basnight family.
The fire put more than 100 people out of work after the restaurant on the Nags Head-Manteo causeway burned. Basnight says his family wanted to rebuild the restaurant as
quickly as possible. Demolition and foundation permits were issued
the day after the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Sandy Basnight, who had run the restaurant with her daughters,
died about a month after the May 1st blaze.
