AUTOPSY: ECU Student Died From Heart Problem

An autopsy says an ECU student who collapsed on campus died because of a heart problem.

Terry Paul was a junior chemistry major and collapsed in front of Jones Hall around 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

The Medical Examiner's Office in Greenville says the student's death was caused by cardiomyopathy.

The American Heart Association says cardiomyopathy is a serious disease where the heart muscle becomes inflamed and doesn't work as well as it should. There can be multiple causes, including a viral infection.

The Medical Examiner's Office has listed Paul's death as being natural causes.
