North Carolina's unemployment rate inched upward to 5% for the first time since last September.
In June unemployment was 4.9% and then in July it reached 5%.
The state says while unemployment is up, so are new jobs. Over the past 12 months the labor force has increased some 56,000 workers in North Carolina.
Nationally the unemployment rate stands at 4.6%.
