Craven County Soldier Dies In Iraq

A soldier from Eastern Carolina was among five killed when the group's helicopter crashed during a routine post-maintenance test flight in Iraq.

The military says 26-year-old Specialist Steven Jewell, of Bridgeton, Craven County, died when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed near Anbar province on Tuesday.

Jewell was part of the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, Task Force 49, based in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. The incident remains under investigation.
