Osprey Gets Vote of Confidence

It takes off like a helicopter, flies like a plane.

Wednesday, the controversial MV-22 Osprey got a big vote of confidence from the navy's top man, who could have killed the project.

The osprey crews at New River Air Station took Secretary of the Navy Gordon England up in the skies over Eastern Carolina this morning. It was England's first flight on the Osprey, and one of the first VIP flights since a series of deadly accidents grounded the program.

England has enormous power to veto or recommend the marine's next-generation aircraft. Following his flight, the Navy Secretary says it's time to speed up funding for the Osprey, and get the aircraft through testing here, so it can go to Marine and Air Force combat units.
