Police Looking For Kidnapping, Robbery Suspect

Police in Newport are still looking for a man they said robbed and kidnapped a person at a bank yesterday afternoon.

Willie Montford, also known as “Chill Will” is facing charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.

Police say Montford demanded money from a person at the First Citizens Bank on Highway 70 in Newport shortly after 3 pm. The gunman demanded money and forced his way into the person's vehicle.

Police say Montford then forced the victim to drive to another First Citizens in Havelock where he made the person withdraw cash from there as well.

The suspect then forced the victim to drive to the Harlowe area where he took the victim's cell phone and cash and then jumped from the vehicle.

Police say Montford is also wanted for an earlier armed robbery of JD's Convenience Store on Highway 70 in Newport last Thursday.

Newport Police are asking anyone with information on Montford's whereabouts to call 252-223-5111 or Carteret County Crime Stoppers at 252-726-INFO.
