Elizabeth Edwards is adding to the political back-and-forth in the run-up to presidential primaries.
In an interview published in The Progressive magazine, the wife of Democratic contender John Edwards says Barack Obama behaves in a "holier than though" way on the Iraq war. She also cuts into rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, saying the New York senator has failed to show leadership on health care and Iraq.
Mrs. Edwards criticized Obama and Clinton for not using their influence to line up additional votes to block an Iraq funding bill in May. The two senators were among just 13 Democrats to vote against the bill.
In response, the Obama campaign says the Illinois lawmaker "was proud to be against the war from the beginning."
The Clinton campaign declined to comment on the Elizabeth Edwards interview.
