Police say a teen who drowned in the waters off the coast of Currituck County did not know how to swim.
The boy disappeared Sunday. Rescuers recovered his body from Corova Beach near mile marker 18 in Currituck County Monday night. Police say the teen and his family were swimming in an unguarded area, monitored only by patrol, and not a constant lifeguard.
Also Sunday, a 47 year-old man disappeared in the water near the Ocean Sands community. Police say he went with his family to a sandbar, complained of feeling ill, then collapsed, falling into the water. Fire and rescue units responded and performed CPR, but were unable to revive him.
