Gambling Ring Busted In Carteret County

The Carteret County Sheriff's Department says it confiscated over $32,000 in an illegal gambling ring.

An anonymous call led deputies to a Newport home where they arrested one woman, who they're not identifying while the investigation continues.

Detectives say the woman was running the illegal operation from her home off Hibbs Road for quite some time. In all, detectives say they found eight gaming machines.

Detectives say the woman is charged with possession of the gaming machines. As of July 1, these types of machines became illegal to possess or operate in North Carolina.
