Electric Records Melt Under Heat Wave

The record heat has toppled other records as well---that for electric usage.

Progress Energy set a new record between 3 & 4 yesterday afternoon when customers used 12,647 megawatt hours.

Duke Energy broke it's record Wednesday. That now stands at 18,988 megawatt hours.

North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives set new records both Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday's record was 2,967 megawatt hours, while at 5pm Thursday a new record of 2,991 megawatt hours was reached.

Electric companies are still asking that everyone conserve during this heat wave.
