Travelers planning to take the Swan Quarter to Ocracoke ferry should allow an extra 10 minutes in travel time to reach the ferry terminal in Swan Quarter due to several highway improvement projects. The construction projects are expected to last through August.

The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed one of two lanes along sections of U.S. 264 and N.C. 45 in Hyde County to replace several bridges between Swan Quarter and Engelhard and between Swan Quarter and Rose Bay.

In addition, N.C. 45 (Oyster Creek Road) in Swan Quarter is under construction and is closed to through traffic. Motorists traveling to the ferry terminal should take the following signed detour:

From the east, take Main Street to Quarter Road to Credle Road and back to N.C. 45.

From the west, take Swindell Forest Road to Quarter Road to Credle Road to N.C. 45.
