There is an Excessive Heat Warning from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday for Martin, Pitt, Greene, Lenoir, Duplin and Wayne. Heat index values will exceed 110° for several hours Tuesday afternoon.
There is a heat advisory for the rest of Eastern North Carolina, from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Heat index values will exceed 105° for several hours Tuesday afternoon.
A strong ridge of high pressure over the Gulf Coast region will continue to push exceptionally hot air and high humidity into Eastern Carolina for the rest of the week. With the ridge in place throughout the week, temps will be pushing upper 90s to even a few triple digit highs aver inland areas. On the coast lower 90s will be the norm. Heat index values will approach and exceed 110 degrees at times.
