It was a long wait in New Bern Wednesday as onlookers gathered to see a bridge being removed.
Transportation officials worked all day on the 53 year-old Alfred Cunningham bridge. Folks waited all day watching workers remove the 380 ton swing span, placing it upon two 110-foot barges, before heading to Edenton.
It was and event New Bern native Bob Mohr didn't want to miss. He camped out at the park for three days.
The removal of the bridge is part of a 40 million dollar project that will see a new bridge constructed in its place by 2009.
